| Crawlspace Cleanout
When rodents move into a home they usually settle in comfortably within your crawlspace. They love the cozy insulation and isolation from predators, as well as the proximity to food sources that humans provide. While the idea of providing a home for animals under your house might sound nice, the reality is that they are severely destructive. Rodents and other wild animals destroy insulation and heat ducts, chew electrical wiring, and leave behind disgusting amounts of feces, urine, birthing fluids, blood and dead carcasses. DISGUSTING! After some time it becomes very clear that there is a problem. There is a process of air flow in a structure called the Stack Effect. Basically the Stack Effect states that air flow starts at the bottom of a structure and works its way up. This process ensures that a large percentage of the air inside the living area of your house comes from the crawlspace underneath. When there is an animal problem beneath your feet it needs to be dealt with quickly to maintain the air quality inside your home. That is what we do best, but if we are called in after the rodents have already contaminated the crawlspace we might recommend a Crawlspace Cleanout. A Crawlspace Cleanout is the process of removing sub floor insulation, duct wrap insulation, vapor barrier plastic and other loose debris from a crawlspace due to rodent (or other vertebrate animal) contamination. We also remove existing fecal droppings and treat the area with a "decontamination/deodorizing spray" to further deodorize and sanitize the space. After cleanup is completed we go through with a "fine-toothed-comb" inspecting for any possible rodent entry points that would allow further contamination of the area in the future. After sealing these access points with 1/4 inch steel mesh or other material we then install new vapor barrier, subfloor insulation and duct wrap insulation. Our proven process helps to deter future infestations in several important ways. First, the odors of the urine, feces and decomposed rodents, which all attract other rodents, are gone. Second, we have carefully sealed up any existing access points for a future rodent to find. Third, we have set traps to catch any rodents-in-hiding. Fourth, a properly installed vabor barrier will help to keep moisture content down, which can attract future rodent populations. Moist environments are ideal for rodents. Some other benefits of a completed crawlspace cleanout are improved air quality in the house (natural air-flow in a house is from the ground up), any secondary pests that would be attracted to a rodent population's stored food will not have any reason to enter (the food is no longer there), improved energy efficiency of the house (new insulation and duct wrap properly installed), oftentimes plumbing leaks and dangerous electrical hazards can be located and addressed by a professional, also we can find other pest problems that would otherwise be concealed by the insulation and undetectable without its removal. When contemplating a crawlspace cleanout it can be tempting to attempt it yourself due to the fairly large cost and seemingly-simple task of removing and replacing insulation. Rest assured, many have tried and many have failed. "Easy" is a four-letter word and it is very discouraging and sometimes frightening to be in a tight space with live rats running all around you. There are also many health risks associated with rodent feces and insulation dust. This is not a task that should be attempted by the average homeowner. It is also not a task that many companies perform as precisely as Rambo Total Pest Control. We are the most dedicated to you, our customer! Aside from all the dangers associated with this work, it is important to have a professional pest control company perform the job in order to find all the access points and to make sure that any conducive conditions for future or present pest infestations are resolved. Also necessary is the proper installation of the vapor barrier and insulation. Improperly installed insulation, vapor barrier and duct wrap will have no positive impact and it is simply a waste of time and money because when you finally decide to hire a professional we will just have to remove it all again. It cannot be overstated that there are many dangers and hazards associated with removing this debris because all the droppings are being stirred up and that can release toxins and viruses into the air. We at Rambo Total Pest Control take extra precautions in the initial set up process to protect you, your family and your home from all the nastiness residing under your house!
